On Thursday my dad was hit by a car while walking from his truck to work at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. It was an extremely rough way to start the day, and it’s made for some very rough days since. His injuries are very serious, but he is expected to make a full recovery. He suffered a fractured right leg, just below the knee, he has a broken scapula, multiple broken ribs, some facial fractures, a fractured skull, a concussion, bruises on the brain with some minor bleeding on the brain, some cracked vertebrae and a lot of bumps and bruises. He spent 6+ hours on the operating room table on Thursday as doctors worked to repair his shattered right leg. He then spent some more time in an OR on Saturday getting his ribs repaired. So far, things are looking pretty good.
So far the doctors have expressed sentiments that he should make a full recovery, but it could take as long as 6 months before he’s back to “normal”. He’s not completely out of the woods yet, but we’re hopeful.
This was really an eye opener to me. He was doing something as simple as walking into work and he almost died. It’s he hard to find comfort in that. Life is such a fragile thing. It’s easy to dwell on the things that aren’t perfect in our lives, but it’s hard to enjoy even the struggles, but I’m trying to enjoy them. This was really an eye opener to me that I need to stop taking things for granted. I love my kids, and need to appreciate my time with them more. I love my wife and need to do a much better job of showing her that I love her. Life is truly a fragile, fragile thing. That’s why the highs are so high and the lows are so low. We’re going through a low as a family right now, but we’re doing our best to learn from it and work through it.
We really appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.
