I decided to go with my parents and Amy to Alisha and Jesse's home near Coolidge, AZ to attend Savannah's baptism. It was a hard commitment to make because it meant that I'd be away from the fam for four days, which is the longest amount of time we've been apart since we got married, but I decided I wanted to go because I wanted to see Savannah baptized. We left on Thursday and had to drive through blizzard conditions to get home, but we made it home safely and had a lot of fun on the trip.
The Drive Down...
The drive down took us close to 15 hours, but we took a scenic route through Lake Havasu and Quartzite. I really enjoyed this route because we got to see the original London Bridge (see pics below) that was shipped over to the U.S. stone by stone and was reassembled at Lake Havasu. It was a cool trip down memory lane for me to see a very old European style bridge. It's been almost 8 years now since I was in Europe, so it was cool to see a little piece of old time Europe in the states. Quartzite is a snow birding town, populated by thousands of RV's. It was interesting though because my grandparents used to go down there in the winter nearly every year and it was fun to see their old "stomping grounds".
By the time we found Alisha and Jesse's house we were all exhausted, but they had beds made and dinner waiting for us which was really nice!
Tucson...
On Friday we spent the day in Tucson, which is a great city. It has an old time southwest feel to it, and is surrounded by Saguaro cactus's and dessert mountains. Tucson was my favorite city on the trip. We spent the day there at Saguaro National Park (see pics below) and ate at In and Out burger. I tested my new found knowledge of their "secret menu" and got a burger and fries "animal style." I'd highly recommend getting the burger animal style but the animal style was a little too much for the fries. If you're interested in finding out what's on In and Out Burger's "secret menu" just google search In and Out Burger secret menu and you'll easily find it.
The Baptism...
On Saturday Jesse baptized Savannah. He did a nice job with it. He was so gentle dunking her into the water it was pretty neat. The other dads who were baptizing had no problems plunging their kids deep into the water (probably burning off some frustration... LOL) but Jesse dipped Savannah nice and slow and was really gentle about it. You could tell that it was a special experience for both of them.
After the baptism we had lunch at a park and I got to hang out with my cousin Megan. That was one of the highlights of the trip... I just wish her and her family lived closer. Brit and I always had a lot of fun hanging out with them when they lived in Utah... so it was really nice to see Megan and her kids. We missed you David!
The Weather...
While we were in Arizona the weather was amazing! It rained periodically which kept the air fresh and cool, but the temp stayed in the 60's and 70's. It was amazing to be out at a park on a Saturday in the middle of January! I can see why Alisha and Megan like living down there so much. I'm sure the summer heat can be rough though... 120 degrees sounds exhausting! But seriously, I enjoyed the weather a lot while we were there.
Utah on the other hand welcomed us back into the state by making us drive through blizzard like conditions from Cedar City until we got home. It was one of the worst drives I've been a part of. By the time we got home we were all just happy to be safe. I'm really starting to hate snow.... I wonder what jobs I could get in Arizona? (LOL... I think it would take some convincing to get Brit to move to AZ because of the heat and being away from family, but wow, I'm getting sick of driving in snow.)
Despite the rough ride home, we had a great time! I made a slide show of pics I took during the trip, it's below. Check out the pics of Hoover Dam! It was Dam Awesome! They're building a huge bridge over it so that cars don't have to drive across it anymore, I think the bridge is going to be neater than the dam when they're done with it, but seriously, Hoover Dam was worth the stop, it's a neat place.
Thanks again Alisha and Jesse for letting us stay with you guys while we were there. I really appreciated it.

David says he missed you too. He wonders why you don't hang out anymore. You are the closest thing he has had to a married friend and now he is friendless. Why didn't we ever become friends, our wives could have hung out and gone shopping, our kids could have played together, we could have stood around the bbq talking about sports and taxes and evasion strategies and then play online old school Sega games... etc. I can't type as fast as he is talking. I had a blast hanging out with you too! You guys need to come back and visit again so we can do all of the things David wants to do to you, I mean with you ;) Ha ha :) Slogre (wv)
